Peter Cammarano was born in Cocoa Beach, FL but grew up outside of Houston in The Woodlands, TX. He is a graduate of McCullough High School, Stephen F. Austin State University (BS: Industrial/Organizational Psychology), The Divinity School at Duke University (Masters of Divinity) and most recently Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary with a Doctor of Ministry in Pastoral Counseling and Psychotherapy. Peter’s research project focused on the role of idealization in clergy marriages. Peter is currently pursuing a license as a Professional Counselor in the state of Texas.
Peter currently serves as Senior Pastor of Chapelwood United Methodist Church in Lake Jackson, TX. Prior to this appointment Peter has served churches in Port Neches, TX; Brazoria, TX; Bellaire, TX; Mount Peasant, NC; and Charlotte, NC.
Peter has served the denomination in a variety of ways over his 13 years as an ordained elder in ministry. Currently in the Texas Annual Conference Peter serves on the Clergy Accountability Cluster of the Center for Clergy Excellence where he is the Team Leader for the Center’s Birkman Method Coaching Team. Peter has served on the Sexual Ethics training team who provided the Annual Conference’s Basic Sexual Ethics Workshop which was required for all clergy. Since 2007, he has been a Birkman Certified Coach and enjoys working with individuals and groups to better understand how they function as part of a team.
Peter has worked with church staffs, law firms, and medical practices. He consults with individuals and provides professional development for individual clergy. Peter has taught on district and Annual Conference levels. Most recently Peter has been under a five year contract with the Texas Annual Conference and the Indiana Annual Conference to provide coaching annually to 30-40 mid career clergy through a ‘Refresh’ style program that seeks to support clergy in remembering their call, identifying strengths and working to address growing edges. Prior to this Peter was one of two trainers for the Northwest Texas Annual Conference’s Quadrennial Clergy Sexual Ethics Training. During three days he trained over 300 clergy in self-care, use of power, and boundaries.
Peter is available to work with individuals, groups, staffs, and couples with regard to self-awareness, leadership, and effective communication. His primary tool for this work is the Birkman Method of Leadership Assessment.
Recently, Peter met the requirements to be a Change Management Practitioner through Proci’s ADKAR method. ADKAR is a powerful method for bringing about change to individuals and organizations. Peter serves as a consultant for the Texas Annual Conference’s Vibrant Church Initiative (VCI). VCI is revitalization program that invites churches to adopt prescriptions for better health and fruitfulness. Peter also is recognized as a trained user of the Baptist General Convention’s model for use of Birkman Method with Baptist Seminary Students.
Peter’s hobbies include gardening, reading science fiction books, and sailing (a Laser) with his daughter, Grace. Peter and his wife Amy enjoy walking together, seeing movies, and traveling to the Texas Hill Country at least once a year. Peter and Amy’s daughter Grace is a fanatic of making art, flying kites, riding horses (Western Show)and Minecraft.
